What a TLD signals, and what it doesn't
The worry founders raise is whether a non-.com looks unfunded. In software it mostly does not — .io and .app are unremarkable to the people reading your deck. The real costs are duller: renewal prices are higher than .com and rise more often, and you will spell it out on every phone call for the rest of the company's life. Both are covered in .com vs .io vs .ai vs .co and first-year vs renewal pricing .
If the .com genuinely matters for your market — most consumer businesses, anything sold offline — the honest options are a different name or buying the one you want. See when you genuinely need the .com and how to buy a taken domain . Naming a company rather than a product? The business name generator runs the same search against trading names.
Try it on your startup
Describe what you are building in a sentence and you will get around 250 names back, each checked the same way as the ones above and ranked by how brandable they are. From $2 a search, no subscription — credits never expire.
